How we collect, use and protect your information.

The 1912 Institute (“we,” “us”) is an Arizona nonprofit. This policy explains what information we collect when you visit our website, subscribe to our publications, register for our events, make a purchase or donation, or sign up for text messages, and how we use it.

Information we collect

Contact details you give us: name, email address, mobile phone number and mailing address.
Records of your consent to receive email or text messages, including the date, time and method of sign-up.
Event registrations, subscriptions, purchases and donations. Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card number.
Information you send through our website forms, such as a fellowship or careers inquiry.
Basic engagement data, such as whether an email was opened or a link was clicked.

How we use it

To send the newsletters, event invitations, updates and text messages you signed up for.
To deliver subscriptions and merchandise, and to issue receipts for donations.
To respond to your inquiries and applications.
To keep accurate records of who has opted in or out.

Text messages

If you opt in, we send text messages about 1912 Institute events, publications and updates. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to stop receiving messages. Reply HELP for help, or email info@1912.org. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We do not sell, rent or share your mobile phone number or text messaging consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are never shared with any third party, except the service providers that deliver our messages on our behalf.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run our programs, such as Mailchimp (email and text messages), Stripe (payments), Substack (newsletter), Luma (event registration) and Netlify (website hosting). Each may use it only to provide that service to us. We may also disclose information when required by law.

Your choices

Unsubscribe from email using the link at the bottom of any message.
Opt out of text messages by replying STOP.

Security

We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Children

Our programs are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes

If we update this policy, we will post the new version on this page with a new effective date.
